Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. Mark 11:10
This wonderful scene of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey is represented elsewhere. So why do I quote Mark here? Because Mark adds a vital element. Jesus represents Himself as king on that day, the only passage in which He does so.
So much for the "invisible, spiritual kingdom within you" theory. There was nothing invisible here, everyone saw it. So I am extremely grateful to Mark for pointing this out. Many would like very much to represent the kingdom of God as "spiritual", and at least potentially, within each of us.
People, who if they were honest (and that is asking a lot), would admit that this coming world-ruling kingdom of David will be quite real and visible. It is just not time yet for it to be established. Jesus was rejected by the rulers that day, but he will return, and so will the Davidic kingdom.
Many years ago, when I read these words recorded by Mark, I was thrilled. I realized how Mark stops the mouths of those who teach that Israel has been rejected forever, or replaced by the church.
It has been said that this gospel was written by one who acted as a reporter or journalist. Not a bad description. He shows Jesus as a man of action, but also, in this verse, reveals the true nature of our King and of His coming kingdom.
