Those Who Make it Through

He will wipe every tear from their eyes,... Rev. 21:4

This wondrous scene occurs when God comes to dwell with his people. The old world has passed away. I am sorry that many do not look forward to this day. Those who are wise enough, see no hope in the present world. Even if it could be patched up or in the often repeated phrase "turned around", those who live in it must face their own mortality.

It is fascinating to hear modern scientists admit that if the present course continues, all who live on the earth will face extinction. This sort of talk used to be the province of the church. And even then, extinction was not the fate of the elect. Guess you could say, no one panics like a materialist when the material world fails?

It seems that in Matt. 24:22 Jesus speaks of the very nightmare scenario envisioned by the unbelieving. "If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive". This is the same prophecy earth scientists predict. But Jesus continues, " but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened". Only Jesus can make this promise, and he has.

A time of unprecedented trouble lies ahead. Even the elect, both Jacob and Gentiles will suffer. And what of the survivors? They will be comforted by God himself, never to weep again, or ever face death and suffering again.
